This month…
May has been a busy month. I’ve done several gallery shows, I'm planning an art market in August, I’m trying out soft pastels - a new medium for me, I'm playing with a new painting subject and I'm off to do some Plein air painting in Door County, Wisconsin.
Gallery shows
In June, my painting "Cave Point Rocks'' is part of the 62nd Annual Wall-to-Wall Juried Exhibit at The Hardy Gallery. If you’re in Door County, WI between May 24 and July 7, drop by the gallery to see it.
Also in June, my painting “Waiting for Summer - Lighthouse Beach” is in the Evanston Made 10th Anniversary Group Show - There's No Place Like Home at the Evanston Art Center from June 1-28, 202
Just ending: my abstract painting "Roof" was at the North Shore Art League's 3rd Annual "Inspired by" Show from April 17 - May 27, 2024. If you are near Winnetka, IL, drop by before it closes on May 27.
Just finished: I had four watercolor paintings at the Overland Gallery at the Starline Factory, Harvard, IL. The first two paintings shown above: “Spring on the Kames” and “Spring Prairie” were featured in the Lakes Region Watercolor Guild Spring show which runs until June 2nd. The last two paintings “Abandoned” and “Torch Lake” were in the Starline's May Fourth Friday show on May 24th.
Art Market in August
I’m busy prepping for the August Maker’s Market in Evanston, IL on Aug 4th from 12noon-5pm. I will have my printed notecards, my Art Cards, sone hand printed silk scarves and lots of affordable framed watercolor paintings for sale. You can preview some of these in my online store. More later…
New Medium
I'm playing with combining pastels and watercolors, using watercolors as an underpainting and pastels for the highlights. It creates some very interesting effects - soft and impressionistic. You can see some of my recent attempts above.
New Subject - Peonies
While I’m waiting for the peonies in the garden to bloom, I’ve been practicing drawing and painting peony blossoms. My first drawing attempt was on multimedia paper, so while I’m pleased with the drawing, the watercolor painting was dissapointing. The colors didn’t move or blend well - I will have to try it again, this time on cold-press paper. To be Continued…
Plein Air Painting
And lastly, I’m off to Door County after the Memorial Day weekend for a few days of Plein Air painting. We’ll be based in Egg Harbor and will paint every day in locations throughout Door County. More in my next blog post.
The peony drawing is fabulous. Great really. I’m In Yorkshire with my granddaughter Kate. We’ve been watercoloring together.
